Working with Jeremiah to design a structurally complex deck for our new house was nothing but a joy. We had talked to multiple contractors who each had different ideas on how we should proceed. Some of them said we wouldn't need a permit from the county and each had different thoughts on what the set-backs from property lines would be. Finally, I decided that I should go to the building permit office myself to learn what the county would require. Once I did that, I realized I wanted to hire a designer so that I could ask various general contractors to provide bids on my design instead of designs that may or may not meet code. I found Jeremiah by googling structural designers. He responded with enthusiasm and was so easy to work with. He came to the work site and listened to what we were thinking. He then took measurements and photos. Within a week or two he had a design for my wife and I to review. We had a video call and he showed us a 3D CAD design. We were able to ask him things like "what if this section were longer? and what if you moved the stairs to a different location?". Jeremiah was able to make those changes on the fly so we could instantly see what the revised design would look like. 

Satisfied with the design, Jeremiah used prescriptive guidelines that he was confident would meet county approval. The county requested changes twice (they should have asked for the second change at the time they asked for the first change, but that's the way it goes). Jeremiah was careful to work with the county and get the job done. It took about four weeks for the county to review the design, request changes and issue a building permit.
